Births that occurred at least 100 years ago
Stillbirths that occurred at least 50 years ago
Deaths that occurred at least 50 years ago or deceased's date of birth at least 80 years ago
Marriages and eventually Civil Unions that occurred 80 years ago
Births and deaths have been officially recorded since 1848
(Registration of Maori births and deaths was not required until 1913)
Marriages have been recorded since 1854
(Registration of Maori marriages was not required until 1911)
NOTE:
The registration numbers given on the site will vary from those shown in some records, e.g. microfiche of R-G's indexes held by many libraries. Originally blocks of numbers were allocated to specific registration offices throughout New Zealand and used to reference their records. All records are now centralized in Wellington and the site reflects their numbering.
