The Waikato militia, 4th regiment

Beale, Bernard Charles - Assistant Surgeon

Bernard Charles Beale was born 10 Sep 1830, London. He was the son of Thos Beale, surgeon of London (author of "History of the Spoon Whale") and married Catherine Griffiths, the daughter of William Cook, solicitor of Shropshire.

On 5 Apr 1864 Dr. Beale was appointed to the position of assistant surgeon to the 4th regiment although, as he initially took up duties treating militia families in Auckland, he did not arrive in Hamilton until a year later. He received a town grant of one acre on the corner of Grey and Naylor Streets, Hamilton East and a country block which he sold to Isaac Coates for one pound an acre.

Bernard Charles Beale died 16 Jan 1910 in Auckland.
